Nothing to arrange except a name
If you want one. We take it from there.
Tell us who it is for
Give us the name for the tag and dedication, or leave it unnamed. If you are ordering for a grieving friend or family, tell us who should receive the certificate and photos.
We plant where it will be cared for
We choose a maintained community area in Gauteng, where people can look after the tree for years. We tell you where it went when we send the photo.
You receive the photo
A photo when the tree is planted, and again at six and twelve months, with the dedication and a certificate you can print or forward.

Where the trees go
Our memorial trees are planted in Gauteng, around Johannesburg and Centurion (which sits between Johannesburg and Pretoria). We choose the planting sites ourselves, and families do not pick a spot. Every memorial tree goes into a maintained community area, a place people already look after, so there are neighbours who will water it and notice if it struggles. We start here because many people arrive in Gauteng from other provinces and countries with very little, and a shared fruit tree can help them get by in time. We plant with future care in mind, not just planting. Read why we start in Gauteng and how a memorial tree uplifts a community.
The memorial certificate
Every memorial tree comes with a certificate. It carries the dedication you choose, or stays unnamed, and you can print it, frame it or forward it to relatives who could not be at the funeral. It is the part the family can hold while the tree grows. See why a tree makes a lasting sympathy gift.
For South African families abroad, and anyone far away
Many South African families now live in the UK, Europe and elsewhere, and cannot be at the funeral or the place where a loved one is remembered. You can plant a tree in South Africa in memory of a loved one without being there, and arrange everything from where you are. It also works as a sympathy gift for a South African family abroad. We send the photos, tell you where the tree is in plain words, and give you a certificate to print, so you can follow it as it grows. Prices are in euro.
What we can and cannot promise
You are trusting us with something that matters, so here is the plain version.
- The trees are grown here. Our avocado trees are grown from pip and are about a year and a half old when they go in the ground.
- Fruit takes years. A tree grown from pip can take several years to bear fruit. This is a long, slow memorial, not a quick harvest.
- No tree is guaranteed to survive. That is why we plant where someone will water it, especially in a drought, and why replacement is included in the price.
- It is a service, not a donation. You are paying for a tree to be grown, planted, looked after and replaced if needed, so we cannot issue a tax-deductible receipt.
In lieu of flowers in South Africa: a funeral flowers alternative
In South Africa, many families now ask friends to send a sympathy gift that lasts instead of funeral flowers. We can set up one link for the funeral notice or family group, so everyone who wants to can add a tree in memory, and the family receives every dedication and a photo of every tree in one place. It starts with a short conversation: tick the box on the form below and we will set it up with you.
Not sure what to write?
Use these as they are, or change them to sound like the person.
Planted in loving memory of [Name].
For [Name]. May this tree keep growing, as you are still loved.
In memory of [Name], from all of us who miss you.
A tree for [Name], to be looked after as you looked after us.
Tell us about the tree
Share what you can. Only your name and email are needed, and nothing is final until we confirm it with you. We reply to every message ourselves.

Questions people ask
Will I get a photo of every tree planted?
Yes. Every memorial tree is photographed when it is planted, and we send a follow-up photo at six months and again at twelve months so you can see it growing.
What is the memorial tag?
A small tag carrying the name or words you choose, fixed at the tree. We never nail, wire or band anything to the bark, because that harms the tree.
What happens if the tree does not survive?
We replace it at no cost. No tree can be guaranteed to survive, which is why we plant where someone will water and look after it, and why replacement is part of the price.
Where is the tree planted?
We choose the site ourselves: a maintained community area in Gauteng where people can look after the tree for years. Families do not pick a spot, because a tree only thrives where someone will water and care for it. We tell you where yours was planted and send a photo.
Can many friends and family each contribute a tree instead of sending flowers?
Yes. We can set up one shared link for a funeral notice or family group, so each person can add a tree in memory. Tick the in-lieu-of-flowers option on the form and we will set it up with you.
How long until the tree bears fruit?
Avocado trees grown from pip take several years to bear fruit. A memorial tree is a long-term, living memorial, not a quick harvest.
Do I have to name the person we are remembering?
No. You can name them, use only a first name or initials, or leave the dedication unnamed. It is entirely up to you and the family.
Can I order from outside South Africa, or for someone else?
Yes. Many orders come from family abroad, or from a friend or colleague of someone grieving. Tell us who should receive the certificate and photos and we will send them directly. Prices are in euro with the rand equivalent shown, and we reply with payment details for a bank transfer.
What can I send instead of funeral flowers?
A memorial tree is one option: a fruit tree planted and looked after in the person's name, with a printable certificate for the family. You can order one yourself, or use the in-lieu-of-flowers link so friends can each add a tree.
Can I plant a tree in South Africa in memory of someone if I live abroad?
Yes. Many orders come from South African families in the UK, Europe and elsewhere. You can order from anywhere, we plant the tree in Gauteng, and we send photos, tell you where it was planted and give you a certificate to print.
Do you plant memorial trees in Johannesburg, Centurion and Pretoria?
We plant in maintained community areas in Gauteng, around Johannesburg and Centurion, which sits between Johannesburg and Pretoria. We choose the site ourselves, and we tell you where your tree was planted.
What is on the memorial certificate?
The certificate carries the dedication wording you choose, or stays unnamed. You can print it, frame it or forward it to the family.
Is this a donation? Can I get a tax receipt?
No. It is a purchase of a service: a tree is grown, planted, looked after and replaced if it fails. Because it is not a donation, we cannot issue a tax-deductible receipt.
